The Gondola Race, Venice, Liberation Day, 25 April 2002

This annual event on Liberation Day, which is also the Festa di San Marco, presents a view of the gondola which contrasts with the familiar one while at the same time it reflects the fun loving nature of the Viennese. Each coloured gondola represents one of the regions of Venice so the race while essentially a fun event is the subject of great rivalry between the regions.
